The skiing area spans both Austria and Germany with Kleinwalsertal being Austrian but administered from Germany. Especially in Winter this is a dead-end to the Austrian side (we do describe a link over to connect to the back-side of Arlberg, but this is a bit of a stretch, not really done unless you have a specific reason, like borders closed due to Covid...).
The skiing here is awesome. Despite its relatively low altitude the region gets a ton of snow, and it sticks. In good cover some of the
north facing runs feel a little bit like a mix between Chamonix and the Chugach. The terrain is very varied, there are even some technical lines like the north face of the Nebelhorn if you want more exposure and conditions are good. A lot though is diverse pow lines with meadows starting just above the treeline. Some really rewarding runs require a bit of a traverse out favoring skiers and borders with the ability to skate on splits or use poles effectively, but a lot is fully lift accessible. While the days when we would call this a bit of an overlooked freeride spot are long gone there is enough terrain for first lines even weeks after a storm if you know your way around.
