Boots are the first point of contact between you and your skis or snowboard. Different types of poorly fitting boots can cause different problems. A very personal opinion… Boots are among the most important pieces of equipment, much more important than the right skis. I am a little religious about it.
I get mine custom made, and I found few people being good at it. My feet are a little funny, or non-standard, so think of it as a good test for the boot maker. I tried Surefoot (https://www.surefoot.com/ – NYC shop for me) and profeet (https://profeet.co.uk/ – London), and had bad experiences with both of them. Surefoot takes a shell, slightly adjusts them if they deem necessary and injects the liner – all in one day. While that might work for many people, for me this was a disaster in both cases. Strolz (http://www.strolzboots.com/) at Arlberg has a great liner, they do a good job adjusting, the shell is outdated.
For me…
I like the Tecnica Zero G Pro and get the shell made. For Freeride days I use custom liner, for long ascents, I use the standard liner. Christian (https://www.oberhorner.de/) does an excellent job on those.
For the record…
We do not get paid for those opinions, this is just personal, entirely subjective. My feet. 🙂
