This one is a true classic. Via ferrata’s are very popular in Europe and unlike in the US they are free and open to use, almost exclusively built as summer attractions. This one is the only explicit Winter ferrata I know of (there is a few you can – and should – use in Winter to access great terrain, like Alpspitze in Garmisch).
Get up to Rendl and make your way up to Riffelscharte 2. The bowl just behind the ridge gets tracked super quickly. If you bring a pair of crampons and – if you want a via ferrata set with your harness – take the via ferrata starting right of the exit of the chair-lift. Climb up to vordere Rendlspitze to cross over into the next bowl. From here – all your choice. Plenty of options, no need to go the ferrata all the way to the end if you feel like going down to Pettneu. If you get out early there is chutes which rarely get tracks, some with cool spots to jump. If you go the ferrata to the end the runs are easier, skiers left, but are quickly tracked. With a pair of skins and a few meters hiking you can also ski down to Kappl, but best to organize the return beforehand.
