The first part is a scenic tram ride, crossing river Inn leading to Hungerburg, the start of the cable car which gets you up to Nordkette.
Nordkette is a fairly small resort up above high Innsbruck, but with stunning terrain in good conditions and absolutely spectacular views down to the city. A small second cable car (Hafelekar Bahn) brings you to the top and gives access to a variety of good to excellent terrain. There is no classic piste from the very top, two ‘ski routes’ are marked. In icy conditions the run under the cables turns into no-fall zone, still worth doing of course.
Hit and miss with snow conditions. If the snow is good, this is actually epic, def good for a stunning day, with more hiking also for more. Family resort.
The valley starts just outside Innsbruck. Not glamorous, with several resorts offering a huge variety of runs. The glacier has the largest lift served area in Tirol, but Schlick 2000 has some good options, even the Elfer area is worth a visit. Habicht – you need to hike from the bottom – is a must do if you live in the area and love freeriding.
